Dear prometheusa3b,

10-15% of people with the dry type also go on to develop wet in the same eye. Therefore it is extremely important that if the optician sees any signs of possible wet (abnormal blood vessels leaking blood or fluid behind the retina) then they must do a fast track referral via fax straight to the hospital eye clinic on the day of the appointment. Royal College guidelines are that from initial possible identification of wet to treatment should be no more than 2 weeks. Wet is counted as an emergency and needs urgent treatment.

The dry is relatively slow in deterioration, so there are usually no noticeable differences over a relatively short period of time.

I have finally received a letter from my ophlamologist who has explained and gone into more detail about my condition. This is made me feel better (not the diagnosis or prognosis) but at least I KNOW now.
