I think it varies considerably, to some extent how you look after your eyes. For example taking eye vitamins, protection from the sun etc.

If you have been diagnosed with dry macular degeneration, Chris 485 is absolutely right. Progression varies considerably between individuals. Lifestyle issues are believed to make an impact. Things that negatively impact on eye health include smoking, poor diet and exposure to UV rays from the sun. Therefore, not smoking, a good diet, moderate exercise if possible and protecting the eyes from the UV rays in the sun are believed to be of benefit. Please see link:

Can I ask how old you are?

With best wishes.

I am 65 years old have age related macular degeneration. I did think my question about how quickly it progressed was like asking how long is a piece of string. I have heard that being on steroids can also have a bearing on macular degeneration. I have osteoporosis caused by having so many steroids so I just wondered I thank you for your reply.
