Anyone else wide awake at 4 or5 every morning, I get out of bed so that I don’t disturb my wife , I have stage 2 Copd as well as stage 4nscc .

Hi. I sleep about 30 hours a week or less, tried all the pills, it is depressing

Yes not good, I manage 6 or 7 hours but I need Zoplicone to fall asleep. When I get up I pass the time playing Angry birds and drinking decaf coffee.

Try not to let it get you down.

Dear Poiuytrewql

Sorry to hear you are not sleeping through the night, this can be quite common with cancer and Macmillan support have some good information on the causes of this and what can help:

macmillan.org.uk/informatio...

If it is symptoms that awake you, breathlessness, pain or discomfort or if you find the advice in the information does not help, perhaps discuss with your GP.

If you wish to discuss anything you can either email us at lungcancerhelp@roycastle.org or call our Freephone nurse led helpline number on 0800 358 7200

Kind regards

Yes - the nights are quite the worst thing about having lung cancer, for me. Things always seem much worse at night. I take a mix of herbal and conventional sleeping aids when desperate but they don't always work. Waken very early like you, or wake in the middle of the night and can't get back to sleep. You just have to think 'tomorrow's another day' and be as positive as possible

My wife wonders how I keep going but I am knackered with fatigue during the day. But I am going to for my 3rd of 4 chemo sessions on Tuesday if bloods are ok . I have been lucky with treatment , mostly breathlessness at times due to Copd flare up,fingers crossed.

Take Care

Unfortunately the more chemo sessions you have the more the side effects kick in. Particularly tiredness. I had 10 chemo sessions before I told the oncologist I could not take any more so they gave m e a break. When I went back, after a scan, the tumour had not reduced any so I am now on immunotherapy which is like a walk in the park in comparison!! Ask about it.

Sleep in the day if you need to.

It’s been a couple months since your diagnosis. What type of treatment are you having? If you’re doing chemo now they probably have you on steroids which will have an fetched one your rest.

Getting regular exercise will help improve things here. I understand it difficult with the COPD but start by walking regularly. You’ll find you have increased energy during waking hours as well.

Hi, I am just getting over a copd flare up and am on 30gms of steroids daily with my last dose tomorrow

Took your advice and went for a walk today so will see how things go.

Take care

Thank you bloods all good, all systems go for round 3 , oncologists saying signs of pinking on existing spots which gives us more positive vibes.

Regards ,Dave
