Hi Cake boss sorry to hear about your Mums diagnosis. I have have just finished 6 cycles of chemo that has seemed to have made real progress with my tumor so much so that I can start radiotherapy this week! I was inoperable and not suitable for radio so a lot can change if you get your mind in the right place. Having read some great studies on food and the impact on cancer I have done much to change my eating habits and I am convinced it helps. It isn't difficult, cancer thrives on glucose, they even use it to detect cancer in p.e.t. scans. We eat too much sugar (glucose)hidden in ordinary food which makes cheap carbs for us, like processed white bread, pasta, rice and of course junk food like biscuits and crisps. Get your mum to eat more protein, eggs, chicken some red meat and fish particularly tuna, pilchards or sardines. If you think something contains sugar avoid it and you will see real benefits. Sugars in food our disguised too, look for Fructose, corn syrup, or saccharin and avoid all of them!! Good luck fingers crossed for you

Thanks scootermod51. I've read about the glucose thing. Quandary I have is that she's been off her food for a bit & the onc deferred chemo for one week because she wanted her to be stronger. She's not that big anyway (8st) so I'd like to see her eat carbs etc prior to next week. I hope that once she starts she regains some energy etc.

Hi there ! My mum was diagnosed with nsclc in July! She used to eat well before the diagnosis but since she has craved all sorts of thing not great for an healthy diet but she has put on weight ! Her choice of food is steak and chips and she often gets up for a bit of chocolate in the middle of the night She has sailed through 5 sessions of chemo with only a little nausea which she deals with by eating a small amount often .

Hope your mum does well xxxx

Hello cakeboss

My mum lost lots of weight initially but she has put some back on. A few days before her chemo I made her smoothies with greek yoghurt which she loved. I used berries and mango chunks. Her oncologist told her to have what she fancied!! Hope she gets on OK, my advice would be to see what she feels like eating as anything is better than nothing. x
