due to the stretching of the skin with swelling it it delicate and prone to injury and splitting, mine split and blistered badly at the beginning and had to have dressings over the areas affected and then the compression, important to keep the area clean and infection free, may need antibiotics , keep covered until healed and wear your usual compression,

I did it at the start of January. Had to have surgery done and have it stitched up. When the stitches had to come out after 18days, it was not good had bad infection so was in hospital for 9days. Then had to have a Vac Machine attached to wound for 3 weeks. At the moment have compression stocking on left leg but still waiting for the wound to heal before I can have one on the right leg. . Feel so horrible walking its a weird feeling. My skin is really dry and flaking and all Blisters on them now and have probs with them leaking and having infections. Wish I could turn the clock back a few years I just wish I knew what was going on with my legs?

bless you I completely understand, I was in dressings and bandages for 9 months and my lef left wouldn't heal up as quick but I got there in the end, its important to moiturise your dry skin whatever you like, but non sceneted near any sore skin,, e45 anything or as I say I use shea butter now every morning and always after bath etc. I went through where you are and now I occasionally wear bandages when they swell more but more often in my below knee compression stockings, we all get bad days but do look forward we are all here to support each other.

Yep bulls I have had this. I was in a car accident last August, I was driving, and a speeding car hit me in the rear. My driver's seat flew back and my right leg came up and hit the dashboard under the steering wheel. My leg split open right across and needed 17 stitches inside and out. Unfortunately it became infected and I had 6 prescriptions for antibiotics in 5 weeks!!! It had to have twice weekly dressings up until Christmas last year. Thankfully it has now healed but I have been left with a crater in my leg, which will always be there!! XX
