Hi pettitt61 unlikely to get mld on the nhs unless it is part of intensive decongest ice treatment. To check out bonafide private practitioners go to mlduk website

Hi, I live in barnet a well, and have been to a mother daughter couple called Debbie and veronica price in welyn garden city, I know they do have patients on the Nhs but I have been paying for my sessions (£60 an hour), I found a couple of practitioners in this area, buthese are the only ones I've contacted, i found them and others on a website, I can't remember off the top of my head, but if you access my previous posts someone has answered one of them with the website you should look at to find registered practitioners ....hope that helps, I had good results, I also had good results with kinesio tape!

If MLD works, why can we not get it on NHS? How many of us can afford to pay £60 an hour? When I get bandaging (heavily rationed in my area), they use kinesio tape but the nurse says it does not work without bandaging and I obviously cannot do that myself. Any comments?

it is a constant battle with the NHS and funding. Even worse if your lymphoedema is primary; there seems to be more support in many areas for secondary lymphoedema which is very frustrating as the treatment protocols are the same. I feel a 'soap box' moment coming on so will sign off!!

Not true about the Kinesio Tape. I use it on my foot very successfully, and have used it on my knee, calf and thigh with some success. I buy it from Haddenhams, paying no VAT because Lymphodema is a chronic long term health condition. You to complete a form with them to get the VAT reduction. My Lymph nurse has shown me how to tape my foot and other leg parts. I swim a lot and if I am wearing tape I wear an old garment over the tape in the water. Pink is my favourite colour tape.

After 8 years for me, I think it is about time we took to the streets. The way we are treated just is not good enough.

The kinesio tape works without bandaging, I have pelvic lymph, so there doesn't really seem to be anyway to bandage that area :( but I still have success. I saw a lymph specialist in America when I was over there, and she said the kinesio tape works by lifting the skin, and compression squashes it in, so in theory the compression hinders the work of the kinesio tape, not that she suggested I don't wear my compression shorts, but I might give it ago one weekend and see what happens...

I know a few people who use kinesio tape, it also works on the pain management too! MLD IS available on the NHS but in a postcode lottery. When granted, you can get 4 treatments a year. Not a lot, and you feel like begging for it! MLD Practitioners can be found on the MLDUK site. Please make sure of using Registered practitioners, and get them to show you how to do your own SLD. (Simple Lymphatic Drainage.) There is less available it seems on the NHS because of cost cuts. But try and try again! I was infuriated that someone got a breast enlargement on the NHS, when so many could have been treated for the same cost!
