The LSN is considering creating a DVD of information about exercise/movement that might assist in managing lymphoedema. Would you value this information?

I would be interested, providing they are not based on sitting on a chair and doing a few minor movements which is what one course I went to advocated.

I would particularly welcome knowing how to judge the limit of aerobic exercise and if any particular exerrcise helps.

And it would be useful to know if anybody has tried running skins when exercising and if they are recommended

this would be a good idea, it was 2 yrs before i went to a lyphodema clinic for advice on excercise and physio, with a dvd i could have started that myself.

I'd be very interested in any information about exercise with lymphoedema. I currently do about 10 minutes of arm exercises every day. I've cobbled up a selection of exercises from a variety of sources, and combined with compression sleeve and glove, sld 3 times a week and mld once every couple of months, my arm and hand are pretty well under control. The difficulty I find is deciding what is 'too much'. For example: don't carry things that are too heavy: (can I use weights at the gym, how heavy is too heavy?) don't use repetitive movements: (can I use the crosstrainer, what about swimming??).

I feel that swimming saves me from having worse lymphoedema in my left arm than I presently have. I consider the movements that I make swimming breast stroke to be similar, in a way, to having a light massage. I was also told that swimming is the best sport in case of lymphoedema.

I try and exercise as much as possible although I've lost the ability to be able to run - my legs stiffen easily and after a long exercise session they feel like the want to seize up!

now this is where it's going to get complicated - i am one of the people who needs something i can do sitting on a chair!

i think, realistically, you're either going to have to do something with general advice & q&a's - in which case a factsheet would be easier & cheaper - or several different versions

there's already the 2 different sld dvd's (upper & lower) & it might be that you could have 2 dvd's, again upper & lower probably, which would both start with some general advice applicable to everyone (& you could ask us what questions need answering in that bit) then a few different chapters with exercise routines for people with different levels of ability & other impairments to manage

complicated! great idea though, just needs careful thought

& presumably some of the garment makers could sponsor it? the lsn / jobst 'how to lose weight by wrestling your garments on' dvd!

I also would be someone who would need to have chair exercises, there is no way on earth can I get down or up from a position on the floor without help. Most exercises have an alternative for those who are unable to do floor exercises so I dont see why this is not possible for this DVD. I had no idea there were specific exercises to be done to be honest. I so need to get referred.....

I would need sitting exercises that are really gentle as my back is crumbling neck thorasic and bottom.. Cannot stand long I do have exercises from physio for core strengthening and I do this lying on the bed with a carrier back under my legs to make the bed slippy. These help with my balance my lymphodema and my stenossis of the back.

Always willing to have a gentle go and see if I can do it :) gins

On the right side of your monitor there is a scroll bar. If you put your cursor at the top of the scroll bar and drag your cursor down the bar, you will see the replies underneath the pie chart. Good Luck!
