Is it safe for Lyme disease patients to take a COVID-19 vaccine? Anyone had a vaccine yet? Any reactions or side effects?

I'd appreciate hearing any first-hand experiences from Lyme patients who have taken a COVID-19 vaccine. Does your Lyme doctor recommend taking the vaccine? I worry about taking the vaccine due to my compromised immune system. I want to know how other Lymies are handling the decision about whether to vaccinate or not.

I have not gotten the vaccine. I'm waiting to get more information from some Lyme patients who have taken it. That's why I posted here. My friends who have Lyme are waiting as well. We want more info so we can make an informed decision. What is your opinion?

I really don't know. I asked my doctor and tried to reassure me that it was safe.

He said all the GPs and their nurses had gotten it already.

But I'm just not sure what to do. For now I'm thinking of waiting a month or two to see if any more info comes out.

I saw my Lyme doctor this morning. He encourages me to take the vaccine; he says the benefits outweigh the risk. Several of his Lyme patients have taken it and are OK. One of his Lyme patients got extremely ill with COVID and was in the hospital and is still recovering. He says the longer I wait to get the vaccine the more chance I have to catch COVID. He also says the COVID vaccines are much cleaner than the flu vaccine. Additionally, he recommended some herbals products to take several days prior to and several days after the vaccine to detox. So I think I am leaning toward signing up for the vaccine. They are giving the Pfizer vaccine in my community.

lymedisease.org is surveying Lyme patients to find out if they took the vaccine and how they fared, so data will be coming in the future.
