Dr. Baldeep Bains served as a Royal Navy Doctor, an Orthopedic surgeon, and eventually a general practitioner. His sister, a functional practitioner, introduced him to the many additional benefits of functional medicine. He does a great job of describing the advantages of functional vs conventional western medicine. The major advantage is more time to get to the root of problems and instigate changes and treatment toward healthy outcomes.
