Not really, but if you really crave fruit, just have a little.

If you feel the need to snack a better option is a piece of cheese, a few nuts of have a cup of coffee with cream. Fruit has a lot of carbohydrate.

I think fruit is best eaten in limited quantities (no more than one or two pieces) daily and never fruit juice.

Because of the natural sugars fruit contains.

But a small quantity as a snack, sure.

From a LCHF perspective you are better off with berries. Berries with a 100g of Greek yoghurt make a satisfying snack, breakfast or dessert. But nothing is off limits if it helps, you just need to make sure quantities and frequency are kept in check. Below are infographics on the sugar content of various foods and fruit which have been put together by GP Dr David Unwin , champion of LCHF and endorsed by NICE

The idea is not to snack at all. You have 2 (or 3) proper meals a day and you do not snack in between. If you snack because you are hungry, maybe your lunch (or dinner) was not big enough. Often people eat, because they are bored or sad or for all different reasons. So it would be useful to be able to establish whether you are hungry, or you feel like eating for any other reason. It might take a while, but if you can cut off snaking, it will be easier to lose weight.

In respect to eating fruit, I reckon, you can probably have some with your meals, instead a snack.

Good luck!

Thanks. I can eat a full fat and veg meal and a reasonable portion. Then later I'm still hungry again. I think it is the medication I'm on as it says can cause an increase in appetite and weight gain. I've researched it on this site and others and many have said they tried everything but still weight wont shift. But I'll persevere!!! I cant change meds at mo

It is hard enough to change your eating habits and understanding about food. It is even harder when you have to deal with a medical condition that complicates things even further.

Maybe, you can have a look at low carb Mediterranean diet. You eat lots of vegetables, healthy fats - olives, olive oil, avocados, some nuts, some legumes, some fruit, some meat, some fish. You just remove from your diet starchy carbs (bread, potatoes, rice and pasta) and refine sugars. There are plenty of information and recipes online.

Fingers crossed, you will be able to figure out what works for you!

I am going to say no. Insulin is a fat storage hormone. As soon as your pancreas releases insulin you go from fat burning to fat storing. Fruit is pure carbs, your insulin will rise, and you will stop burning fat. Also, insulin is likely to rise higher than is needed, so it will cause your blood sugar to drop too low and you will get hungry again.

Have fruit as part of a meal. If you must snack between meals, go for something high fat with as little carbs and protein as possible, piece of cheese, cream in coffee etc.

I have started snacking on sour gherkins during my fasts. It feels like eating something, but it's only 4kcal and 0.5g of carbs, so it won't excite my pancreas or exercise my tummy much.
