Ramadan update 2.

So, here we are, end of week 2.
How’s it going? Well, given the current situation it’s a bit like ‘Groundhog Day’. Get up early, switch on the tele, switch off the tele, fire up the Mac. Do half an hour on Duolingo (French), go out on a bike ride. Get back, fire up the Mac again. Check out Facebook - generously share my deep, incisive take on world affairs, read the Mail, do the puzzles in the Mail, ponder life’s tapestry for a bit, research the Tube (a lot) go for another bike ride etc

. Not much thought about eating so long as I’m kept busy. The bummer is that sunset creeps forward by 2 minutes a day and in another couple of weeks it’ll be 9pm. It would be a lot easier going from 5m to 5 pm, but I elected to do it properly, and it’ll be a test of self control, so I’ll stick to it.

Start weight 177.1 lb

Last week 172 lb

Current weight 168.7 lb

Weight lost this week 3.3 lb

Total weight lost to date 8.4 lb.

Miles cycled this week, 165 - 23.6 miles per day.

Here's the maths on the 5lb weight loss. I suggested that the energy I was expending during exercise might match the energy I was consuming - a zero sum, essentially it would be like eating nothing at all. So I did a back of a fag packet calculation:

The average man needs roughly 2500 calories a day. Multiply that by 7 equals 17,500. Divide that by 3500 (calories in a pound of fat) that comes out at exactly 5 pounds. Skewed somewhat looking at this weeks figures, but the principle applies.

BTW
. I was enlightened on how Ramadan works for a lot of people in Cairo. They break their fast at sunset, stay awake all night, presumably consuming a couple or three meals, then at sunrise, go to bed and stay there until sundown. Sounds like a pretty cute workaround - just substitute night for day.
