Which fruits are allowed with this diet. I was given a mango. Still waiting for it to ripe.

Berries tend to be best on a low carb diet, the other fruits are a bit high in sugar.

Mangoes are sugar bombs. Stick to berries.

How long have you been doing this? If you're attempting induction I'm afraid you'll have to give it to someone else :) if you're a few weeks in, well, it's a pity to waste a mango. The occasional sugary treat is fine as long as it is occasional.

Thank you TheAwafulToad. I am in my second week and i can see the difference. I can see my waist shrinking somehow or maybe i am kidding myself. Seriously I don't crave for food as much as I did before. Which is a relief, prior to this I didn't know where to stop with my eating habits. I think I gave up, until that wake up call about T2. I will try and never to take my health for granted again. Thank you everyone for all off your support. Cheersxx

Honestly, I would try to stay away from fruit for a bit longer - I'm sure there's someone you know who will appreciate a mango! It's incredible how quickly the cravings recede, but a dose of sugar might make them come back again, so I'd err on the side of caution ... for now.

When you're a few months in, you'll find that your body will react more normally to the occasional sweet treat (in terms of insulin and blood-sugar response), and you'll feel no desire to eat a monster size bag of cheetos afterwards.

So good to hear you're making progress. You probably are visibly shrinking. I remember looking in the mirror and thinking "what on earth are those two weird dents either side of my gut? Ohhh ... it's my fat disappearing."

One of the few useful things my GP suggested when I was diagnosed as prediabetic is a book called ‘Carbs and Cals’ published by Chello. I cannot be doing with counting either carbs or calories really- I just avoid sugars , bread pasta, rice, potatoes and most fruit like bananas (and mangoes). The book is useful though because it has lots of photos of different sized portions of different foods and their carb and calorie content. I avoid anything more than 5% carbs. An 80g portion of mango has 11g of carbs- more than 10%. It depends what other carbs you will be eating whether it is OK or not. Blackberries and raspberries are the lowest carbs- apart from rhubarb, but I cannot imagine anyone eating rhubarb without added sugar!

I see they do an app for the same thing, Zyxe, but it costs £3.99.

Thank you Zyxe,

I can have Rhubarb with porridge. A spoonful like. I like tangy things.

Thank you for the post very useful.

The only way I like porridge is with lots of brown sugar-so unfortunately that means I don’t eat it any more.
