Hi All! My name is Christina. I was diagnosed with clear cell renal cell carcinoma in April 2017 at the age of 38. My diagnoses came out of the blue. I had zero of the “typical” risk factors and I had zero symptoms. My tumor was accidentally found on an MRI for a spinal surgery. I had a partial nephrectomy but unfortunately my margins were positive so I have scans done every 3-6 months to catch it quickly should it come back.
Hi, I'm Ralph. I was diagnosed December 21st, 2013, after an extension ladder slid out from under me. No previous symptoms at all. It was discovered during a CT scan of my back that showed a compression fracture of L1. Surgery was April 2014, after I got released from my back brace. Initially, it was a partial nephrectomy, but the remainder of the kidney did not heal correctly. The remainder was removed in December 2014. I've had clear scans every year since.
I've never had any deep fears or distress during the whole process, which surprises me! However, every year that goes by, I do experience a little more scanxiety as the time for tests draws near.
