Sorry to hear this as I think this is a bit drastic do you attend the same consultant all the time as I attend a team of four and feel they don't always have same views of treatments

Sounds drastic to me too. Looking back at your question history - am I correct you have two children both with ITP and one had a bleed from the brain? No doctor, I'm sure would suggest termination without good reason and presumably they gave you the reason.

Going back to one of your earlier questions re you banging your head and having a headache for days. Hope this has now gone.

Good luck

Hi Charlie. I agree with Salmagal and Mags. This is a drastic course of action.

I see you are in the West Midlands. Do you attend the main hospital in Birmingham or are you outside? If you are outside, I think you should ask your GP for a second opinion at the Queens. If you look at the ITP Support Association web site and follow the links, you will find the ITP Centres of Excellence where there are specialists in ITP listed around the country. It never hurts to have a second opinion. Good luck and let us know what happens.

There are quite a number of ITP patients who have had uneventful childbirths. There are many options available but as the issue is slightly complicated I suggest that you refer to an article by

Webert et al in ( Blood vol.102 no.13 4306-4311) just go to google search and type what I have written in the brackets.

discuss ur problem not only with the obstetrician but also with a hematologist and a pediatrician

Good luck - I have ITP and have given birth twice in the last 4 years and yes you need to be monitored and careful but a termination seems very extreme particularly at a stage when the baby is so developed. I wish you enormous luck. As an aside and this is not for everyone, my platelets were so rotten in my first pregnancy (and i dont respond to prednisone) that I did a ton of research before my second pregnancy and saw a homeopath throughout. My platelets stayed consistently higher during the pregnancy (she had me taking a variety of homeopathic remedies including "blood liquiescence and spleen liquiescence"). I was induced a month early when my platelets started to really drop quickly but it was so much better than my first pregnancy - might be worth a try for you.

Not what you're looking for?
