My chronic ITP was caused by antibodies crossing over when I was pregnant; I didn't have it before I got pregnant.

My lad was born with a platelet count of 15 I think, and was slapped full of IGG (?). He was fine and his low platelet count has disappeared by the time he was 3 months old. He's now a

strapping 17 year old with a platelet count that is normally about 220.

My daughter was born health last year. I have chronic ITP with counts in the 30K range. I had 11 Infusions of IVIG during my pregnancy. She was tested at birth and her counts were fine and again at 9 months. Alought it is something that I will always wonder about and always be on the look out. ITP Is Iddopathic, but studies have shown that ITP tends not to go from mother to child...but who knows...I don't...no one does for sure. I don't think.

Hi Charlie, that is such a shame. I had two children and neither were born with ITP. I didn't know I had ITP before I became pregnant the first time, it was picked up in the first blood test of my pregnancy, originally they thought it was pregnancy induced but it wasn't. Took me a long time to decide to have my second child, the haematologists weren't keen but the obstetricians were fine with it, although they did make me have a scan every month!

Hi I have had itp since I was 7 and I am now 31 . I have had 2 children and my first child only had low platelets for 2 days and her own immune system took over thank god . My kids are 7 and 5 now and r completely healthy . When I was pregnant with my first I had to stay in hospital for a week every month to have ivig but by my second child the doctors could do it in a day
