How long does prednisolone stay in yo... - ITP Support Assoc...
How long does prednisolone stay in your body for, I was on it for 10 weeks.
It will stay in your body for at least a year!
Absolutely Billteapot, as Nicky has said, unfortunately Prednisolone stays in the body/system for a year at least. This is very important not just for the obvious reasons that we can still suffer from the side effects but also that if we are undergoing any other medical or dental treatment it has the potential to clash with any drugs/medication we are prescribed or given for those conditins/tteatments even though we may well have stopped taking Prednisolone.
For Example....One area where I did not even give it a thought was in dental treatment, when I was having a filling, my dentist had to give me a different local anaesthetic as the standard one. This is because the standard one may well clash with the Prednisolone. Luckily my dentist is really good and knows a lot about ITP, so he is aware of my situation and always checks what my platelet levels are and whether I am on or have been taking any medications at all including Prenisolone over the last 12 months.
Thankfully since Rituximab treatment in August 2010 I have been in remission since then and have not been on any medication since September 2010. But the Prednisolone took a year to leave me.
Did you have any side effects during the year?
Yes mtkp I had headaches, achy arms and legs, general feeling of tiredness. My specialist actually told me that there would be no side effects when coming off the steroids but I think he was just trying to put a positive slant on it. In my experience it was quite a painful period but now I am the other side of it things seem all worthwhile .
