Hi Whitespot. I was advised not to have tattoos by my haematologist. I already have one and would like to have more. Are you a bleeder or a bruiser? What is your platelet level? My average is 12 and I'm a bruiser.
If yo do get a tattoo, please let me know the outcome. x
The simple answer is... Don't do anything until you have discussed it in full with your doctor or the specialist treating your ITP.
I had a large tattoo done on my outer thigh a month before diagnosis. In fact I think the extreme pain for 4 hrs may have started the ITP off as I had had lowish platelets, but just in normal range, for years apparently. I was told this after diagnosis though, so I didnt know at the time.. It was done on an area that is hypersensitive! My haemo says as long as Im 50 or above he is ok with tattoo's. My tattooist says as long as the harmo is ok with it he is too!
I have 3 tattoos, all done since diagnosis. My Tattooist was brilliant and even researched what counts were ok. Lots of people with ITP get tattoos from what I have seen on various forums. My counts were well over 100 but 60 was the figure that seemed to be common amongst some of the forums that my tattooist researched. But obviously you must check with your own doctor/haematologist!
I just got 2 tattoos but I asked my doctor first before I did it
