Hi there, I was diagnosed with itp Sept last year and have been on prednisolone on and off since then I also found out I have hiv and needed to take meds straight away for this and now I have been asked to go for a flu jab is this ok to have as taking meds and having needles is tiring to say the least. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Greenwood78
I haven't got any other probs except ITP so don't know whether the flu jab will affect you. However, I am a chronic suffer of ITP and also have a flu jab every year with no adverse effectstatni am aware of 😀
I also get a flu shot every year with my haematologist's blessing and haven't had any problems.
Hi there. It's an interesting mix of illnesses there since technically the HIV should repress your immune system and slow down the ITP... but prednisone is the worst thing you can take with HIV so you really should consult a doctor. This must be really emotionally draining for you, I hope you have lots of support. I recommend having the flu jab though - if you get flu you won't be able to fight it off so if that's what the doctors have recommended then you should. I get mine every year and it really, really helps. All the best in your journey to recovery x
