How about colonoscopy? Has anyone had... - ITP Support Assoc...
How about colonoscopy? Has anyone had a colonoscopy since being diagnosed with ITP? I'm scheduled to have one and am very anxious.
Not sure about pros/cons of surgery- but I have been reading up on Leaky gut- which depending on what you read seems to be responsible for many health issues including ITP. Treatment is pro biotics ( acidophillius) and GI complex- also pro biotic with other things Have you heard/tried this??
my dada is an ITP pateint from 9 years and h recently had a colonoscopy in march 2014. he was given a steroid booster injection and and then the procedure was performed. it was fine no complications
I was diagnosed with ITP nearly two years ago and also have Crohn's disease (colitis) which was diagnosed in 2003. Since then, I've had colonoscopies done about every five years. Thankfully, both are stable for now and I haven't had any complications from the colonoscopies. The worst bit was taking the laxative the day before. When they did the colonoscopy, I felt uncomfortable but it wasn't painful. They gave me opiate painkiller and a mild sedative. The procedure was always done by a consultant, as day cases. I was only in hospital for a few hours. Afterwards I felt very tired for the rest of the day but OK from then on. My gastroenterologist said that for a colonscopy they need platelets to be at least 40 - 50. I had a blood test done the day before the colonoscopy last year to check them (they were fine, 154). Thankfully the gastroenterologist and haematologist are at the same hospital, so there's good communication between them. Your hospital / specialist should talk you through everything involved before / during and after the colonoscopy if they haven't already done so. Best wishes.
Colonoscopy can now be noninvasive/virtuall.
