more insulin again…

I’m having a bit of burn out at the moment… my levels aren’t where I want to be and I’m very frustrated.

I asked my nurse about metformin today as my insulin isn’t having the desired effect.

She has just increased my dosage of insulin yet again.

I am sick of this. I take sooooo much insulin and I don’t want any more.

I feel like it’s an endless loop and I take more and more every day.

I know it is frustrating. When I started insulin I have had to increase my doses until their present level. I usually take between 25 and 30 in the morning depending on my blood sugar reading and between 40 and 50 in the evening depending on what I am eating for dinner and my sugar reading. I don't know how high these doses are but they work for me. I was alarmed that it had to keep rising when I first started but I learned that my body would take time to adjust to insulin and would level off eventually.

I'm certainly no expert on diabetes, but can offer only what I'm doing for my Type 2. First ry to find out what is causing your diabetes - is it too much sugar in your system or too little insulin being produced or has your system become insulin resistant. For me I take 1000mg (extended release) metformin daily, take Tresiba insulin injections daily (right now 24 units), and take Trulicity 150mg weekly. Trulicty is not insulin it is a GLP-1 agonist and is pricey. It helps your body against insulin resistance. Through diet, exercise, stress reduction, and Trulicity I've been able to get my A1C down to 6.0 along with my average glucose down to 126. Me and my PCP's goal is to get me off of all diabetic medications within the next 6 months. It's a slow process but is working for me.

Best to you!
