I’ve read a lot about the blood testing with the freestyle kit where you just put the sensor on your arm. It’s so ideal and perfect no more finger pricking! But I don’t really know how it would work as the sensor only works for 14 days and them another is needed? How much would each cost? I’ve ordered one on a free two week trial. But after if I decide to buy it how would it work? And do those on prescriptions who got them get sensors free every 14 days? Anybody any idea??

Check with your insurance company to see if and how the Freestyle system is covered. Is it covered by your pharmacy benefit or as durable medical equipment? There would be ongoing costs for replacement sensors just as in other blood glucose testing and monitoring systems. You will need a script from a physician and possibly other documentation to prove medical necessity.

I spoke to somebody from the freestyle company. They sorted me out with a free trial for 14 days. Should get it in 10 days. 😃 but at the confirmation email it says replacement freestyle libre. Why replacement??? I don’t even have it yet!!

Hello Junny123. I hope you are okay. Just to share my experiences. Originally I went through the diabetic clinic and was issued with a Libre Freestyle 1. The machine was sent to me via Abbot Healthcare. I then spoke to my GP and in prescription had replacement sensors every two weeks. About a month ago I attended the diabetic clinic and as a result was provided with a Libre Freestyle 2 again from Abbot. These were free of charge. They still provide sensors on a two week basis on prescription. The main difference is that the Libre 2 also has a blood glucose monitoring system with blood glucose strips again these are free on prescription. The libre sensor on my your arm is a good guide for your blood sugars but these may be slightly out in terms of numbers, however it is a very good guide. . The sticks provide a very accurate reading. The libre 2 also has the ability to track your data via your phone depending on which phone you have. I am yet to manage this as my phone is not compatible. I hope all this makes sense, if not please shout and I will try my very best to answer. My first suggestion would be to speak to your local diabetic clinic/hospital. I am very grateful that in the UK we can get this on Prescription. I think you are in the UK also. Take good care, Judi

Hi yeh I’m in the uk. My sister got her meter today because her sugars are not too good. She’ll be getting her sensors free every two weeks them won’t she? I don’t see abit for my diabetes only a nurse who has given me the clinic number to ring for any problem. That’s why I doubt I’d be able to get one. Those people like yourself who see nurses regu are pretty lucky n yes we are lucky to have the nhs give this kind of item free

I have applied for a free 14 day trial one. I hope that comes soon. If I decide to buy one it will cost me so much a month!
