I wonder if you’re loved one is experiencing delirium?
Delirium, mental exhaustion, or medication-driven paranoia.
Alternately, it could be the strange lighting in there (a combination of dimmed or bright lights, plus flashing monitors) reflecting off equipment surfaces, or off medical goggles/glasses, or even off patient or doctor face masks.
All the above can give the impression of being in a strange horror or sci-fi movie.
