Hi all! My Dad is an ICU with COVID and intubated for exactly 4 weeks now, trach was done about a week ago and this past Monday they also switched him to a PEG tube, now he has developed Cholecystitis (gallbladder inflammation) they saying probably due to the NG feeding tube being there for too long and since he’s not a candidate to surgically remove the gallbladder they have to insert another tube to decompress drain it and it will be there for 6 weeks or maybe even long term. Anyone had the same experience any information would be helpful

Best of luck with that, doesn’t sound very pleasant
Hello
This sounds similar to my dad although not Covid. He was admitted to hospital with pains which turned out to be gall bladder issues (never had this before). He then got a very bad case of pneumonia and was admitted to Icu with a day of getting to hospital. It was an awful time. He had drains for both his lungs and for the gall bladder. He also had a feeding tube. His gall bladder drain came out prematurely and he then got sepsis. He’s now at home after 6 weeks. He won’t be well enough for surgery yet. It’s all strange as he’s never had gall bladder issues before. I hope this gives you a bit of hope. We were very worried about my dad abs it got very serious one particular evening but as I say he is home now. Hope it’s the same for your dad x
Thank you so much appreciate your reply and wishing your dad a speedy recovery as well! The doctors decided not to drain him as in his condition the procedure would probably cause more harm than good ( he has very low platelets so any procedure comes with risk of bleeding) so for now they treating it with antibiotics
