My mum has been in ICU for 4 weeks now. Initially due to kidney failure and now due to an infection. She was send on to the respiratory ward last week but she didn’t stay long before collapsing. Now she is back in an induced state for stabilisation. She’s my rock my everything and I have cared for her in the same house for years and years - she’s a huge part of my life.
Drs are pessimistic but my mother is STRONG. She was written off weeks ago and prevailed. I’m working on staying strong for her now, she needs us.
Anyone else been through similar things?

Following pneumonia and heart valve replacement I was sedated / ventilated for 6-8 weeks. I had a tracky and woke up when I was ready. There were a couple of touch and go times! I lost a tremendous amount of weight, had muscle loss, couldn’t speak nor swallow. I came home mid March and continue to improve.
I spent 3 months in ICU fighting off various infections - 2 months in a coma- whilst life isn’t straightforward- it is full & beautiful. Keep fighting for your Mum, she’s doing all she can.
This gives me more hope. The drs said this might happen and her recovery is up and down (why they’re pessimistic). But I know my mum is a tough cookie not many people could survive what she’s been through in her life
