It sounds like you are having a very rough time. Do you have anyone you can talk to about your feelings? There are some virtual ICUsteps support groups running through zoom at the moment. You might benefit from joining one of these and speaking to other patients. ICUsteps Chester have one on Thursday starting at 6:50 pm. If you want to do this there is a contact form at icusteps.org/support/suppor.... The organisers will send you login details and help you to join in.

Poor you. The pain is horrible. I have it too.

I can only say that it will get better with time.

Please do see if you can find someone or a group to talk to.

That will help too.

Hi @NannaSharon

There are so many legacies to critical care which has nothing to do with the particular condition or illness that brought you to ICU.

We all seem to suffer varying degrees of muscle waste & weakness, often we suffer chronic fatigue ( which is not tiredness) - it describes a mental, physical & emotional exhaustion that is not proportional to the activity at hand.

I struggles with a level of cognitive dysfunction, I would/do forget people’s names, words for things, the way to do things, I struggled being able to concentrating whilst reading & learning new things.

I had severe pain & stiffness in certain joints and my muscles ached & were inflexible. I learnt later that my muscles had almost ‘dissolved’ whilst on life support. They had also shortened - hence why my whole body hurt.

My fingers & hands were especially bad and I had extensive help with those through OH out patient.

I also found that I was emotionally out of kilter for a long time - this was the effect of all the sedatives & drugs still leaving my system - months later. My hair fell out but grew back.

This is a link to a lot of information- I hope you find so answers here.
