February of 2016 I was admitted to the hospital for a near fatal asthma attack. I was in an induced coma for 17 days (hospital for 19) I went on to the rehabilitation hospital (10 days) and then out patient therapy for several months. I have questions about what happened, why it's taking so long, why my body hurts so bad
Getting better: February of 2016 I was admitted to... - ICUsteps
Getting better
Apparently it takes 10/12 days to recover from every day you are in ICU - happy trudging😀
Seriously? I was in CCU for 3 weeks and 1 day. I've been out of hospital for 4 weeks (today) sounds like I have a loooonnnngggg road to recovery 😒😖
I was in ICU for 3 months - 2 months in a coma - some people can lose up to 30% muscle tone in the first ten days. When I woke up - I could slightly raise my arms & knees & move my neck
When I came out I couldn't bear weight on my legs. Even now my legs are still really skinny and weak. My arms tire quickly but are much stronger than my legs. I hate it. I was hoping that by now I'd be back to "normal" but I've found there is no normal after 2 grade 3 Comas.
You lose up to 11% muscle mass for every day in a coma. I too was in a coma in Feb 2016 for 14 days and at times I just can't get out of bed. However in the main, I'm doing good. Have you got an icu steps support group near you? X
I was in ICU for 2 months with pneumonia on the lungs, 3 of which I was in a coma. When I awoke I couldn't move at all, after a few weeks I was able to squeeze my partners finger (we used this to communicate as I was ventilated) When I was out of ICU I was able to move my arms and legs a little bit, my partner got me home and we worked on my rehabilitation. It took me about a month to walk again. This was two years ago, now I'm back to commuting to London for work, I swim 1km 3 nights a week and feel generally fine So don't expect your recovery to be swift but you'll get there, little steps, it does hurt but that will pass and you'll get there in the end. Good luck we're all rooting for you
