Statins?
Hi
I have had brain fog DX with Mild Cognitive Impairment for many many years now and I have been on statins for 3 years no difference to me mine are called
Atorvastatin 20 mg x
That is Lipitor. Have you tried getting off the med for a few weeks to see what happens?
The reason I ask is that many people are allergic to statins such as Lipitor, Crestor, etc which can cause myopathy. I have to use Zetia because of allergy. I know firsthand that Crestor can cause brain fog for someone with APS
The first statins that they give me crippled me they were called Antivastatin my dad can't use any statins they make him very ill x
Hi
I was started on simvastatin but had horrendous muscle cramps, I have familial high cholesterol, it was 9.6. Gp changed me to atorvastatin after elevated creatine kinase levels.
Cholesterol down, ck down and muscle cramps and pain better.
My brain fog no worse or better than pre statins.
Low inr makes my fog worse.
Take care gentle hugs love sheena xxxxxx
I have just been prescibed statins to see if my foggy brain improves - only a week but nothing really, I shall have to give them a chance, I will do anything to help me.
My cholesterol is 5, but was told that they help with the vessels in brain.
My fogginess comes on when INR is either too low or too high.
I have only been given plaquinil for the joint pains, as others say, if my inr is low I'm worse with the foggy head.

Terrible leg pain. Coq10 helps.
I hope you are aware the CoQ10 may decrease response to warfarin and make it difficult to achieve and maintain the proper INR level. You might ask your doc about switching to Zetia. Works for me and is not a statin.
Recover from another stroke, so on inr and Lovinox. That was the last time
I will notify anyone.
I have a 77 year old friend who was put on statins after a mild heart attack. Lipitor, in fact. I've watched him go into this fog. He seems very confused at times. I've been wondering if it's the statins. I've been trying to convince him to go off it and try something else for a couple months just to see if he improves.
Hi everyone
I had bad muscle pain when I started statins and tried thre kinds. Then I was sent to a lipids expert Dr, who explained that most statins go into the blood stream all at once but they only get metabolised by the liver slowly. The statins cause the cramps when they are in the blood. The solution, 80mg of Fluvastain (Prolonged release) that only gets into the blood at the rate the live deals with it, so it does not hang around casuing side effects.
Best wishes.
Dave
I am afraid I wouldn't touch statins with a bargepole but this is my personal opinion.
I have lowered my cholesterol, from 9 to 6, by switching to a vegan diet 4 days a week and red meat only once a week. I also take plant sterols. Oats eg. porridge and oat milk help to lower cholesterol and also cooked tomatoes and cucumber.
My sister in law has just come off statins after suffering severe pain for over a year she is loads better.
Sorry but I don't like the fact that there are government targets to get people on statins.
At one time when you had high sugar, cholesterol, blood pressure etc. You were given diet and life change advise now it seems you are just given another pill!
I also saw a documentary where they interviewed a doctor who stated that cholesterol was measured at the normal rate for a 24 year old and he argued that as we get older what is considered normal at the age of 24 may not be normal for an older person. I wonder what happens if you have very low cholesterol does this affect the body as well?
Think I should be nicknamed cynical Sue!
