I've just been given warfarin tablets and doctor has said to take 10 mg today, 10 tomorrow and 5 Thursday then blood test friday.

Does the 10mg mean to take 2 of the pack with 5mg in. I'm abit confused as they have given me 4 boxes of different tablets.

Hi, we can't give medical advice on here, please ring the pharmacy and speak to the pharmacist who prescribed you Warfarin and they can double check the instructions from the GP/Consultant. People will give you an idea on here of how they take their own medication but crucial that you check yours as everybody is different. MaryF

I agree with Mary, we cannot give medical advice, you must check with the pharmacist.

I used to use Warfarin tablet sizes in the same way as loose change, so as long as what I took added up to that days dose then that was fine.

That's what I was thinking Dave. I phoned my gp just waiting to hear back Mary. Thanks for replying I feel abit silly just abit overwhelmed with it all.:-(

I have been on Warfarin since 1992 if you have been told 10mg you can take them in any combination you want as long as the add up to the number you want. I am at the moment on 4.5mg 1)blue 1)brown 1)white. My INR is 2.8 on average. I was told to take at 19:30 everyday so when you have a blood test, if it is miles out they can get in touch and change it before your next dose

Everyone is very different with warfarin as so many factors can affect it.

Broccoli is not a good thing to eat and keep well away from cranberries while on Warfarin.

In my case it was a a lot of changes to get a stable dose sorted.
