I got infected by Hepatitis E two months ago and i am still suffering from this. My highest bilirubin was 31.9 in last month. However, everything starts to come back in normal range and last bilirubin shows 6.5. But, recently i am feeling my feet is swollen mildly. is it a sign of liver failure?

Hepatitis E
no liver failure is very serious and like a heart attack tends to start killing you over 24 hours. Swollen feet are more a sign of water retention and all the salts of bili working its way out of the system. Keep hydrated 2 litres of water a day, rest and eat zero fried foods zero alcohol and less meat. Do not eat before sleep as when you sleep the liver works to expel bili. Hep E is a self limiting infection and will clear up over 6 Month cycle, so for these months make a real effort to be kind to the liver. Green foods, forever living aloe vera can also help the liver build up again. 6.5 bili is a score that says you are over the worst and everything should be like folding a piece of paper on the symptoms each month til they are gone. Thank you very much!
Does the line '6.5 bili is a score that says you are over the worst' of your reply means there is no possibility of further complication and risk factors? Now is there any possibility of liver failure in recovery phase i am dealing with depression since last two months.
Moreover, It wasn't actually my swollen feet and there was no sign of peripheral edema. It was under the sole of my feet which seems stiffy and causing mild pain while walking. However, my bilirubin is dropping very slowly than before. How long it will take to come in normal range approximately? Below is the Bilirubin timeline of my blood tests.
1 October: Bilirubin 7.7 - ALT: 850+
3 October: Bilirubin 12.0
17 October: Bilirubin 20.8
23 October: Bilirubin 26.0
30 October: Bilirubin 31.9
10 November: Bilirubin 21.1 - ALT: 54
17 November: Bilirubin 12.6 - ALT: 63
23 November: Bilirubin 8.2 - ALT: 72
27 November: Bilirubin 6.5 - ALT: 57
4 December: Bilirubin 5.0 - ALT: 34
And again thank you very much.
Yes these are recovery figures the ALTs have gone sky high towards a 1000 on October as a immune response and now returned to normal range. From 23 oct to nov 10 the bili was peaking also. Now we are in recovery mode and your body has been rather abused through all this and takes some time to get back to normal but stay clear on the fact that the liver has done its miracle fought the virus off and returned to normal. Basically you are knackered after winning a big fight. in your situation we need to help recovery of stamina appetite etc and cleanse the body and also be wary of relapse via doing liver unfriendly things so as a rule of thumb.
Be mild this xmas zero alcohol, zero painkillers, zero fried foods, zero protein shakes..
Go 2 litre jug of water, go lemon cleansing juice, go milk thistle lower bili herbs, go aloe vera forever living gel, go a multivit course of pills, go green cabbage advocados etc and less red meat.

Most of all remember liver upset directly effects our emotions and hormones fight flight adrenal panic, poor sleep exhaustion depression and brain fog cant cope feelings. Are the moods to start to banish also.
Much love it takes time 6 months to be fighting fit again and finally rest is best the liver heals at night so get good sleep pattern and do not eat before sleep
Paul your servant
Weird just have one of these stye myself painful nasty white pimple on eyelid right. Best thing warm flannel 4 times a day. Do not fiddle with or try to pop it...NO. Let it go and do it thing by itself it will burst at night and you will feel much better ...irritating though
with your bili scores at normal I would relax on that area. depression is actually a very real symptom of liver illness like the one you have had. Our hormones fight flight adrenal, mega brain fog from poor sleep exhaustion all this IS the depression, my first symptom of hcv was staring into a train window not knowing why I was crying. Jaundiced is actually another word for depression as is browned off! So trust yourself you will feel your old merry self as you get the liver back to tip top shape. I would definitely consult a doctor before administering anti biotics to yourself. My strong feeling is the body itself sorts out hep e in nearly all cases and antibiotics will simply slow that process. Yes do another set of LFT's as these will show all levels of progress now you are well over the worst and these help banish depression. share them here and keep moving forward. Again I recommend no alcohol fried foods or painkillers just green foods add cabbages potatoes avocadoes lemons spinach and other normal foods you eat. walking is also good to help the body shed excess poisons and recreate a well being feeling. With Hep E it is very rare cases that have long term issues usually among the transplanted, immuno problemed and HIV patients. Like many bugs from fecal oral route self clearance is the way to go.
It is true that I think too much about everything. I am suffering from high anxiety disorder from many years which has become severe now. However, I am 22 years old and have no habit of alcohol any other bad habits. And you deserve thank you for continually encouraging me
It is just fine when they have incurable Hep B anxiety patients really struggle so jony clear this problem and you will. Then make sure you are hbv vaccinated as incurable hbv plus anxiety ailments are not a good combo. You are doing very well and being very logical, proud of you. I got other patients who have rung me 50 times and actually gone crazy with hep b. so well done you for being scientific and fighting both the irrational fears and a nasty hep e infections. I got doctors ringing me who panic more
Latest LFT
Bilirubin 3.8

Hi Jony,
These my friend are Olympic fit liver readings, so you are functioning well. But with a liver attack like the one you have had it is now about getting appetite, sleep and stamina up to normal levels and worry down to zero. But rest assured this result is great.
Meanwhile, my semester final exam is running, thus proper rest isn't possible at all. However, my appetite is okay since the beginning of bilirubin reduction.
Right Jony, finals!!!! Drink water to get energy, put the infection and all other worries behind you. Sometimes having something intense and lifetime valuable to do is a healthy way to recover. I try to get a good 7 hours sleep then burn like a blow torch when I get inspired with such tasks. Work hard through things get that exam. The Hep E is fading to nothing when the old appetite comes back. Don't worry about a bug you have been brave and strong to overcome worry on the exams , way more productive.
Yes indeed your liver is fine now
