good morning everyone, around 1 month ago I started experiencing arrhythmia episodes. Happening from 2 weeks apart to 1 week to a few days.

before all this, my cardiologist completed a heart ultrasound and the heart was perfect.

now that I am getting this episodes more frequent the doctor recommended to take metoprolol xl 25mg. However when I am not having arrhythmia (140-160bpm) my heart is at around 55-70bpm. When sleeping 43-52bpm.

I am scared to take the medicine thinking my heart will drop to less that 40. Is someone having the same issue?

Ps: I am currently wearing a holter test for 2 weeks and when I was 16 I had a catheter abliation. Not sure if I am having what I had before.

Hi, I've been taking metoprolol 25mg 2 times daily for a year now. My heart rate was similar to yours before I started it and it hasn't slowed more than a few beats since then. I'm not sure that it's even responsible for my slightly slower rhythm, but I'm quite sure it keeps my ectopics in check, which led to episodes of 220+ beats per minute. I haven't noticed any side effects from metoprolol.

thank you so much. Did you do a catheter ablation?

I did not have an ablation done, they were unable to induce my tachycardia when they tried. From what ive read tho, ablations are a mixed bag, Some times they work great, sometimes you get other symptoms afterward, so ive held off on trying again since metoprolol has been working for me.

That does suck, I'm sorry to hear that. I do have a friend in her 60s who has had several ablations, and her EP told her the ablation often only lasts 5 years or so. Hopefully medication can help you, hang in there.
