Hello Christarella,

Sometimes it's far better not to know what GPs and consultants say between themselves, because it can worry us needlessly - many of us just don't understand medical terminology, which can sound serious when it is not. I think in this instance ignorance is indeed bliss. Well, like you, Chris, I have ectopics, and they have been so strong at times that they have woken me at night. In the end, although making me nervy, I have been able to live with them. I first had them when I was about 30yrs old. I was on a train passing Kings' College Hospital - I got off, went into A&E, when a couple of doctors told me the problem, ectopic heart beats, and that they were not worth worrryng over. Since that time I've had all the medical checks you have listed, and, in not so many words, have been told that I need to learn to live with them. So I have. They are indeed scary, of which GPs and consultants are very much aware. Well, I'm 79yrs old now, which I think indicates the 'don't worry' advice was spot on. Do please try to do the same. Fingers' crossed for you!

Best Wishes,

Patrick

Hi Again Christerella,

Looking into what you've said, I very much suspect the lockdown has caused you loads more worry, not being able to get out and about when having ectopics and feeling generally unwell. Try to be positive - it's very easy to say that, I know, but my feeling is that the ectopics are not to be worried about, so if you can accept that it will certainly help you in itself, and thereby enable you to cope generally. You are doing all the right things to help yourself. I'm vegetarian as well, have been for about a year, but do make sure you're getting enough to eat - I mean, if you're worried, then being hungry will not be too helpful. I've been eating Quorn sausages, Quorn Stake and Gravy pies, as well as their lattices, all of which are substantial - and tonight I'm going to try Quorn fish, which apparently tastes exactly like fish - so that'll be interesting. Linda McCartney's food is also very good, and of course there are other makes out there. It's just that when people say they're eating plant-based food I feel concerned that they might be living on lettuce leaves and tomatoes - which are very good of course, but we do need to eat enough. Keep that in mind Christerella, and good luck.

Best Wishes,

Patrick
