So I wanted to know if anyone has had any issues with topicals products (not RX medication related) like cosmetic/anti aging creams, oils, sunless tanners, makeup etc causing your arrhythmias to flare up? I keep a diary of when I have symptoms, what they were, how long they last and so and I’ve noticed that certain products seem to cause me issues. Although I do keep in mind correlation doesn’t equal causation it’s weird for sure!

That's an interesting thought Tiffw28 and I could well believe this happening. I started buying an organic, additive free coconut soap a few years ago and I must admit my AF attacks have calmed. Mind you I also cut out eating anything with artificial additives.
Having a very sensitive skin, I also use Nivea moisturiser under make up, Nivea face wash and Simple face wipes. All are for sensitive skin. As a body moisturiser I use Garnier Intensive 7 days lotion for very dry skin. Make-up wise, on my face I use Bare Mineral powders (not good to use if you have deep wrinkles). It's surprising just how many chemicals we use on our bodies. I also use an additive free toothpaste before bed and a different one in the morning. I must stop naming products or folk will think I'm advertising
It would be interesting to know what products you're using that you think could be your AF triggers, but perhaps it would be better to private message me with those
Yeah, we really do put a lot of chemicals on our bodies and in our bodies. Really a shame!
So here’s some examples, I started an Olay anti-aging cream with retinol and within a few days of using it I had a problem. I stopped and it’s been pretty quiet since. Before that it was after a L’Oréal sunless tanner. I even had an issue with a Neutrogena blush. There was a synthetic squid oil in it (had no idea) so may it was that? Who knows! It’s really just random drugstore products although I will say my higher end products like my Lancôme creams etc haven’t caused any issue. But again it really could all be coincidence that’s why I wanted to reach out and find what experiences others had. For about a decade now I’ve had to watch what foods I consume because they can be triggers especially foods with dyes and MSGs so I really hope I don’t need to start watching everything else now! Feels like it never ends!!
Hi Tiffw, So sorry you seem to have a few problems with this and it'd certainly be interesting to know if you discover which particular products seem to trigger your reaction. I haven't noticed this effect as such but I have noticed that the strong scents and perfumes of some cosmetic products do trigger it. Not sure if this is common. I now tend to use perfume-free stuff. Unfortunately not all my episodes are as easy to track down. Good luck- keeping a diary is a great idea!
It’s weird because I’ve only noticed it as of recent, never had an issue before. That’s why I’m wondering if it’s more coincidence than not. For years I’ve dealt with certain food setting off palpitations but I know that very common and documented in literature. Frustrating as heck though!
