Hello I have a question for you all.

I do have anxiety but here is the problem, I notice at times when I'm not anxious that my heart speeds up.

I wake up in the morning and it's in the 60s at rest but by evening it's up to the 90s at rest and drops back down when I lay down. Is this normal? I tried relaxing and it won't come down and the nurse practitioner at the VA keeps chucking it up to "anxiety" and won't listen to me and I'm frustrated. I was told the pulse shouldn't vary by 30 beats if sitting all day. That's what concerned me, I sat for almost 8 hours and it rose on it's own and I had no anxiety to speak of. Why I am confused.

Are you on a BETA BLOCKER...like Toprol xl or plain Toprol.....plain can wear off and elevates pulse. BTW 60-100 is the normal pulse range.

No, I wake up and it's at 65 to 70 bpm, by evening it's up to the high 80s and 90s, on some days low 100s and then by 8 pm it drops to the 60s laying back down.

First the normal pulse is 60-100 bpm and you are in the normal range. 1. Are you on Blood pressure medication and if so which one. 2 When your resting pulse is at 90 what is your systolic and diastolic pressures. If it were afib or atrial flutter you will need a 40 day HOLTER MONOTER after routine EKG if its abnormal.

Well I know the numbers are in range but question is, is that kind of variation normal???

I also just did a monitor last week but they only ordered a 24 hour test 😞

Come on now this is all normal. Don't worry about it. Heart rate can vary dramatically (by 300% with exercise). Athletes can go from 40 at rest to 200 with high intensity exercise.

It is usual to put down variations at rest to anxiety.

Your heart rate is NORMAL and the variation is NORMAL

Thanks, just got worried because I read a dumb article saying your heart at rest shouldn't vary at all. I appreciate it.

Agree with goldfish.

I can have been sitting down at the table and my heart rate can (and did) swing up and down all over the place danging from 37 to 128. Recorded on a Kardia ECG monitor.

I do have persistent AF.
