I dread going to sleep. I get woken up by my heart rate increasing and palps. Anyone suffering from this.

Have you had a sleep test? Sleep apnea can cause heart arrhythmias at night.

Yep. Especially after eating. Try a dose of Gaviscon before bed. It works for me and I have had this for 45 years.

Hello Westy,

Well although I can't give answer to all your problems, I can tell you this - that I have long had palpitations and ectopic heartbeats (many years' ago my doc said they are one and the same thing), and they have wakened me at night on many, many occasions. I was told that they were nothing to worry about - and so I didn't worry. Yes, a bit scary, with all that bumping going on in one's chest, but I was always able to drift back to sleep. What might interest you, and give you something to hope for, if you really are that worried, is that these days I hardly have any ectopics or palpitations - no more waking at night with bumping in my chest. Perhaps not worrying about them has to some extent brought this about? I mean, if you worry, that can very often affect your heart. I am seventy-eight years' old.

Hope I have helped you,

Patrick

I too have this and at points in the past it was several times a week. I think the more sleep deprived you get, the more you have them. I was tested for sleep apnea and didn’t have that. I already know I have IST and possibly another SVT. Mine were annoying but I didn’t worry about them at all. Not worrying didn’t decrease them but I found a few lifestyle changes that did. Cutting back from 2-3 alcoholic beverages to 1, no excessive excitement (parties, etc) or exercise after 6pm (yes, boring, but if I do, I have 50/50 chance of palps in night), and adding an afternoon cup of coffee which stopped me from waking up with a migraine which was also somehow tied to my palps sometimes. So, I guess my point is that these solutions probably won’t be yours but changing something in your routine be it diet, exercise, etc might provide some relief. And try not to be scared they can’t hurt you. I know that’s easier said than done 😉
