Sunday Express scare story

The Sunday Express has a rehash today of an old story of deaths caused by faulty pacemakers.

That probably spoilt a few Sunday breakfasts.

Too right it did, typical scaremongering i'd say, read the article online and then went onto Medtronic website and you can put in serial number of your machine and see if it has had any recalls, looks like mine hasn't but hopefully would be contacted by pacemaker clinic if there were issues..

As my one was only fitted last month it will be to soon to have had any recalls:-)

Do all makers have information like that on their websites? I have a Boston Scientific model.

The Mail has picked up on the story today with much the same detail.

Hi and welcome to pacemaker club !! If you go to the Boston scientific pacemaker website there is an email address for patients or caregivers to contact regarding any general questions, I would imagine you can email them with your concerns and give them pacemaker details for piece of mind.

Hope you continue to feel well,

Wendi

I had it checked on Friday and everything is working OK. The technician had a student with her who got nearly all of her time and I did not get a chance to ask all that I wanted to. I then went next door for my annual Echocardiogram on my pacemaker that is still doing its job.

I mentioned to the lady doing it that I had read an article recently on development of tissue valves that would last a lifetime. She reckons from what she sees that present ones will do that for many people and that she had an 11 year old patient with one.

Everything in life has risks, I think everybody on this forum with a pacemaker would rather have one than not. Ignorance is bliss if you ask me :)
