Surgery this year?

Hi everyone,

I’m waiting for an aortic valve replacement at Papworth and I’ve had a letter through for a consultation with my surgeon next Friday.

I was told surgery would be approximately end 2022/early 2023.

From your experiences, how long after this intitial appointment were you in for surgery? Is this appointment an indication things are happening quicker?

I’m feeling a bit lost at the moment!

Look forward to your replies

Morning Sidnutz,

I am also awaiting surgery at Papworth (Mitral valve). I saw the surgeon (Dr Moorjani) in June and was told 4-6 months. Alot will depend on how urgent your surgery is rated, they wont tell you your category but it enables them to proritise their waiting list.

You can try calling the Papworth booking office for an estimation of date. I have found they are rather short on the phone (no doubt over stretched and understaffed!) but if you persevere and keep polite they will give you an idea.

Beware if they tell you your 'Target date'. I was given a target date by them of 1st November however was subsequently told its more likely January. So dont rely on this target date. As I'm sure they have told you, they wont contact you until 3 weeks before they have a surgery slot for you, so its just a waiting game.

If your symptoms get worse, as mine did, do go and see your consultant again as they may put you in a higher category. Sorry for the wordy response but hope some of it helps.

Good luck, keep positive and hope you get a date soon!

Mike

You can contact the medical secretary to get an idea of the waiting time specific for you.

I’ve just had the surgical consultation at Papworth and been told 6-12 months. Could be better, could be worse I suppose

They operate the priority on a categorisation according to how bad you are. Just make sure to revisit your consultant if your condition deteriorates.

I’ve been booked in for the 27th October now! 6 months became just 6 days! 😍
