AVR and bisoprolol and other meds.

I was wondering if anyone has had a aortic valve replacement or open heart surgery and put on bisoprolol or other beta blockers while on an anxiety medication? I had surgery 1 year ago and I am still bedridden and was on beta blockers for 11 months and taken off abruptly and now I'm in a withdrawal. Thank you for any responses or insights.

Hi Beater. I have been on Citralopram for many years and was initially on Bisoprolol 1.25 mg twice a day. This was reduced to once a day about 3 months after my op. As far as I can tell these are not reacting against each other although I am having some stomach problems. I am sorry you are still bed ridden. Hopefully you are having regular physio visits. It is very difficult to get health visitors to come to your home but if you keep trying the nurses can be very helpful. Also your local pharmacist is worth talking to. They have a wealth of knowledge on medications and how they react with other drugs. I do hope you feel a lot better soon and can get on the road to recovery.

I was on large doses of bisoprolol (10mg twice a day) for years with no problems until I got bacterial endocarditis and had aortic and mitral valves replaced. Since then I’ve been on a much smaller dose of bisoprolol (1.25mg once or twice a day, I forget — my wife fills the pill tray for me).
