It'll be 2 weeks tomorrow since my total abdo hysterectomy with 16.5cm bikini cut. I kept my ovaries.
I have swelling in my belly which many people mention. But I also have swelling in my mons pubis and labia majora. I sometimes get mild pricking pain in the labia which I assume is nerves coming back to life. As I become more active I seem to be noticing the swelling more, particularly when I sit for a while.
Have others with a similar operation had the same outer vulvar swelling? How long has it lasted? Has it been associated with any other symptoms?
Thanks

I had the same thing and feelings...5 months down the road I still have days when it happens! Saw my surgeon on Friday and she said it is normal and ca take a year to become normal feeling! If I sit too long it is the worst...numb, almost a feeling of being “asleep” and feels swollen as well! Also my left thigh at times is slightly numb...supposedly from the leg clamps! Here’s to us both getting over these feelings 👍🏼👍🏼❤️
I have no idea if I had leg clamps but I assume not with abdominal hysterectomy. The Genitofemoral nerve supplies both the mons pubis and the top of thighs from what I can understand from online research. I have numbness in more areas than are served by this nerve, but I believe the nerve would have been damaged when they cut the round ligament.
As for the swelling - it's close to the bikini cut so could just be related just to that? Time will tell...
My cut is from the belly button to my pubis....I had a full abdominal hysterectomy after 9 days it eviserated...meaning it began opening from the inside out, my small intestines were coming thru the incision so I needed life saving second surgery...then a wound vacuum to close the wound for 12 weeks...I am a Nurse, but it was some experience!
I agree with you...there is a Femoral Block given along with general anesthesia and THAT is what causes the numbness along with cutting the nerves...hopefully all mends in time! I found using an ice pack very helpful at the end of the day...ice is a miracle worker! I didn’t take any drugs after the initial narcotics after surgery. Nothing helped me but the ice and a stiff drink before bed! LOL
I had the same procedure with same incision. I felt exactly the same symptoms after 2 weeks after surgery. I tried to be too active and my incision opened up maybe 3 mm so I rushed back to the doctor. I had swelling too in the mons pubis area and the doctor said I had infection and spreading . He gave me an injection of antibiotics. I'm 3 months post surgery now and still struggling with the swelly belly. The more active I get the worse my swelly belly gets. I had no idea this would be side effect of post of for this condition or may have never had it done.
