Wild boar in the Wye valley 🐗

Hi everyone,

Ever since I moved to the forest I’ve been fascinated by the wildlife and the boar in particular as they are so elusive.

Last year they were culling the boar so being intelligent a male boar took sanctuary on the edge of town as he knew he wouldn’t be hunted this close to town. I kept having glimpses of him and then this Spring he formed a sounder with 3 females and they had 9 babies humbugs and I kept meeting them at first it was really exciting but they became so familiar with the locals that they would hang around the footpaths. I had to remove their images from social media as they were getting unwanted attention at night. So now they’ve moved deeper into the forest I’m happy to share some of the images that I took of them.

Here’s a link about boars in the Wye valley please see: visitdeanwye.co.uk/explore/...

I was on the footpath and as I stopped to photograph them one of the mums and the dad came out of the undergrowth and you can see how powerful the male is with his tusks with the ability to sprint to 30 mph weighing in at 500lbs+ makes him formidable so I didn’t want to upset them as it’s quite intimidating the way they watch you and their posture. I had to stop as there were babies humbugs crossing the path abs these were poised on the bank above me.

I’m going to post a few more of my best photos as I doubt that I’ll get the chance again as I was meeting them 2 or 3 times every day.

I hope that you enjoys the photos. 🐗

The parents were above me on the bank looking ominously down at me in my first photo.

My Aunt and Uncle lived close to an animal wild park! It had deers, goats, boars and also a few peacocks in it! The animals had plenty to roam in their fenced off enclosures! We fed boars potato peels somtimes! But seeing them free is a privilege Jerry! I love watching rabbits, squirrels and birds when I get chance to go for a steady walk near our river Skell!

I used to have a hedgehog in my garden the first 2 years, now I don't see any at all!

But some butterflies, birds and quite a number of bumblebees this summer in my garden!

My youngest son is in Cornwall, near Newquay in a holiday cottage with his family this week! He send me some pictures yesterday! Looks great where they are staying and near the seaside!

Enjoy the boars Jerry 👌🥰

Apropo

Did follow the link! You live in an interesting area, that's for sure 🦛👍

This is interesting as I much prefer wild life parks to zoo’s. My family lived on the Lizard peninsula when I was first born then we moved to the South hams to live in an estuary town near the sea.

So I’m sure your youngest is enjoying being on holiday in Cornwall.

There are rabbits here but they’re so flighty I just get glimpses of them so that’s nice that you get to watch them.

The boars have moved on but they still visit my wild life garden at night.

It is a privilege to see wild life I also come across deer so here one looking at me over my garden wall after coming down my drive.

I bought this place 2 years ago so with the pandemic and lockdowns am very glad that I did move here as it wasn’t planned.

The deer is well hidden Jerry 😂As you know I had Mum and 2 Puppies from her, but puppies were crossed with a border collie! On our walks we saw many rabbits, but depending on time, early morning or dusk! My dogs chased them but they are so quick these rabbits! But it was a lovely time, they are good companions, kept me going when things went wrong!

Anyway my youngest grandson, 1 and a half years old, looked as he was intrigued with all the sand on the photo!

My son and fiancée, yes they needed a break and so glad they are enjoying this holiday! They have a 5 year old as well!

They are lovely children, it was great to see them in person begin of July at my eldest son's birthday weekend in Nottingham! Miss them all! I can visit my daughter more often she lives 45 mins away Stockton on Tees! But miss my Sons Jerry!

Was too tired from work to meet up with my daughter on Monday!

So hopefully I can meet up with them next Sunday or Monday!

We shall see🤗

Wished I bought a small house 2011 when I had the chance! Never mind! 🙏👍
