racing brain

this has now happened twice where my brain is racing with thoughts ( possibly similar to what I use to be like ?) it’s very strange and even while driving I get the sense of driving fast . Passengers haven’t said anything . It’s like it’s all happening quickly alone with my sense of smell has improved and my dizziness has returned .. my legs haven’t good good recently getting worse with hip pain and muscles aching/shooting /cramps .. does anyone have anything like this as it’s all changing .. I am waiting for a MRI on lower spin as the hips have been painful for a while .. longer than the racing brain which has been in the last few days Sue x

I recognize these events. I found that my brain would race when I was improving cognitively, it was like things were connecting up at a faster rate. It was a bit messy but I would think of these events as positive because my mind was processing information faster than the slow processing effects of BI. It's a good thing! but it takes a couple of weeks to integrate into the whole system. your sense of smell is improving which may be connected to it by either triggering the faster processing or is improving because of the faster processing. Whoohoo your on the up, just stick with it and the rest of your cognitive system will catch up.

I also had spinal issues (still have) with sciatica in the lower back caused by disk damage. It may sound weird but I had physio that made it worse and in the end found that walking barefoot on slightly uneven ground, a grassy field, actually fixed the issue. I think it had to do with rebalancing to the shape of my feet. Remember our feet are stuck in shoes most of the time which constricts the feet and alters the balance and gait which affects the spine.

I found that by doing mindful movement mixed with qigong exercises really helped straighten my whole body. It also seemed to cause more mind racing as the sensory information from my body triggered cognitive processing.

I found keeping a journal focused my emotions and thoughts, it kind of provided a platform to deal with the racing in an intentional and constructive way rather than being all over the place. Getting it all down on paper provided solidity and after writing for a while I realized I was constructing my new identity on the page.

Food for thought!

Thank you for your reply as I did think it bight be the brain connecting in a different way .. it help so much to hear others are having or had similar things … and your thoughts on leg problems is interesting .. I am waiting for MRI to see if nerve damage is in the spine or could it be from the bleeds on the brain .. who knows truthfully what’s causing what .. I know I would deal with it better if I could just know where the problem is .. not even thinking it will improve much more just wish I knew what has happened to me … Sue 😊

Thanks for this reply Pinkvision. And thank you Teazymaid for the original question. You have asked and answered this question exactly when I needed it.

Brain racing, cannot sleep it is going so fast. Not presently helped by a cold which has gone to the chest - so on antibiotics. Road rushing towards me, even though the speedometer says I am doing a steady 40.

Will try walking barefeet on an uneven surface for lower back - lets see if it helps. Mindful movement and qigong - never tried, will look it up. Have done some sitting mindfulness and that always helps. But really cheered up that the brain is actually having a period of successful rebuilding!

Thank you, thank you.

Hi I’ve just looked up the Qi gong exercises … they are similar to a glass I do in the gym Ti -chi , yoga ,palates mix .. but I’m going to try the Qi gong as I haven’t been able to do the classes for several weeks with the pain in in legs and hips .. so will def try Qi gong with my physio exercises ..Sue 😁

Hi, sorry its late I have been working. I sometimes feel I'm driving too fast but I'm not, although I do feel it. I am also finding that my dizziness is returning especially for the last 3 weeks, and I'm not sure if it's because either have been moved into baby room a twork so it's noisy and I hate it. Can I be nosey and ask how long you lost your sense of smell for? I have lost my sense of smell and my taste. I think at times I smell somethings but I only seem to smell something nice. For example, at nappy changing time If any babies have had a horrible nappy I change it because everyone else feels sick with it, but no smell is agood thing for that one haha. X

Hi, Hope it’s ok to reply to a reply? Just wondered how “feels like I’m driving too fast” presents? For me,it feels like either side of the road is rushing at me and there’s too much to process. My neurophysiotherapist taught me to do gaze stabilising exercises. (They are simple, quick and instantly effective.) They help with dizziness and nausea too but not vertigo, that’s down to something else.

Lost my sense of smell to Covid, on return I only smell bad things . Fancy a swap? 😂

Hi for me it is me that’s going faster than I normally would have been going .. I did like driving pre accident and would say I was quick driver ( not ridiculous just very comfortable driving ) since my accident when I got my license back I thought I was a lot slower but in the last couple of weeks I feel like I’m driving quicker and my thoughts are coming at me much quicker .. I was all slow in thought and only could think of one thing … multi tasking had disappeared but I feel like it’s all trying to come back but I’m finding it very strange .. not sure that answers your question but After the accident and for a long time I had no idea of speed of cars so could cross the road without a pelican crossing or someone with me .. that’s was for months sue 😁

Hi,

that description sounds VERY familiar. I even had to re teach myself what speed I was driving at by repeating the numbers over and over in my head whilst driving at that speed.

Wonderful to hear you are making great progress. Changes are always a little disconcerting even when for the better. Don’t worry, in my experience those feelings quickly disappear as your brain adapts and the changes become your new norm. Just remember to be kind to yourself while this is happening.

Just worth bearing in mind, before you put your foot down, is how quickly (or slowly) you may respond in an emergency. Just a word of wisdom from my post head injury driving instructor.

All the best and happy driving..

thank you for your kind words and yes I am checking my speed all the time 😊 it’s just how I feel not what is happening .. I guess i was driving slower but it also could be the same .. just our new acquired brain that’s reacting 😊 like someone else said thank gos we leave this group as it’s the only place thing start to make sense and your no alone or the only one .. shame the medical community doesn’t read what is happening and what it feels like ..Sue 😊

Its just over a year now with no smell or taste. Like you I had lost mine to covid in 2020 for a year and then all of a sudden it came back but this is annoying me now! Haha, as much as I would say yeah sure let's swap, this time its no thanks haha. As for feeling I'm driving fast its like I am getting agitated at other drivers as I feel they are driving too slow and I'm right there saying to myself oh come on put your foot down. I know I'm not speeding though, that's not me. I don't have the same way you do, but I understand what you're saying. Sorry I'm no help at this. 🥴

😂 Was worth a try. Ah, I see a little internal “road rage” 😉. Interesting though, I’d not linked my irritation at slow drivers to my own progress. Good point though.

Thanks Creativity8 - and your Neurophysiotherapist. Gaze stabilising exercises - never heard of them of course. Will look these up too. Have I mentioned that this platform is invaluable? Many thanks

I get brain racing at night time. Im tired and lay down but my brain will not shut of, it feels like its going really fast. Like every thought has to make itself known right then. I end up rolling around trying to sleep. Then wake up groggy and feel tired all day, then the cycle starts all over again. But i am menopausal and not getting much help with that so i just get on with it.

I can’t say it’s at night it’s all day and yes the menopause is also a nightmare in the sidecar of my new lift Sue 😁
