So we are 2 years 2 months post my husbands stroke, he literally never gets out of bed now. What strength he had was severely depleted after a 3 month stay in hospital from jan to end March. He can’t sit up by himself and is just about managing to roll onto one side,no movement at all left side.
Is this it, is there anyone with any experience of this level of disability this long after stroke. Feeling desperate this evening x

Stroke recovery is variable. Giving up is never an option and every day is a constant battle of frustration and often anger. I remember well the pillows cushions etc. used to 'prop me up'.It sounds to me that you as a carer, need support and advice from therapists etc. Don't be afraid to voice your concerns to them, let them know your issues, write them down list them. Recovery is a long road and 'baby steps' are needed as the brain learns new ways to do things. I think you should also talk to organisations like the Stroke Association/ British Heart Foundation who can provide some help/advice/ information etc. I would definitely encourage you to get a home assessment. If you have access to the internet it might be worth having a look for any online stroke groups on social media to air your frustrations and gain some knowledge from stroke survivors and their experiences. Don't be afraid to ask for help if you need it

hi pozza I came off my bike last May and had a bleed to my brain on the right side which affected my left side, I was in a coma for about a week and was paralysed down my left side, I had to use a wheel chair to start off with, then progressed to a walking stick, but now I am walking unaided . I had to fight to get myself back, I refused to accept my outcome, I was a triathlete, so I made myself run and swim, swimming has been the best recovery tool, its been 13 months now and I still have a way to go, I still need to try and get back on my bike, I have tried but its so scary, its like my sub conscious remembers the accident but I can't. Its a personal thing I reckon, it depends on how much fight the patient has and how much they want to recover.
