Twelve months ago today my son had his life changing TBI. We have all been living life on a rollercoaster of emotions. At the scene of his accident his Glasgow comma scale was 3. He survived the accident, 9 hours in theatre and later aspiration pneumonia. The hospital wanted to discharge him to a nursing home. We fought and he was moved into a specialist rehab facility.
The change in him has been unbelievable. The staff are fantastic with him and he is trying so hard. He has gone from being non responsive to laughing and smiling and has now started answering questions with different noises. He lost his ability to swallow properly but now he’s having a small amount of water to drink.
He has had a SMART assessment and he’s starting to emerge from the low level awareness.
Today is going to be tough but we are forever hopeful. We know we’ll never get the son back that we had but he’s still got that cheeky smile and little twinkle in his eyes.

What a marvelous post. You and your son and your family embody the spirit that can inspire us all. Happiness does not have to come from having a life that looks like an advertisement. Its purest form is that which springs in the midst of struggle. Its purest form is born of love and community and great effort and gratitude. I wish you all continued gains in health and strength.
My accident was 27 years ago & I still notice improvements, seems similar t what your son's goin through and hopefully he'll recover just as well.
With all the advancements in technology, ok he'll never be the same to be honest with U, but I'm sure the new him will be just as nice a person & he'll still have a happy life Xxx

That is such good news. I guess a day of mixed feelings for you. I am inspired by your determination. My son is 10 months post hypoxic brain injury. Its been and still is pretty traumatic. I’m so pleased to hear your news. I wish you continued progress. Best wishes x
