Hi I have recently started taking this medication for migraines and headaches I know it is is also used for weight loss and for seizure medication for epilepsy treatment for migraines and head Aches too. I wondered if anybody else was,
taking this and what where you’re thoughts on the side effects I’m currently hoping on the weight loss I don’t want the others!
Thanks

I've been prescribed amitriptyline for migraine in the past, but never topiramate. Interesting choice of drug from your doctor. It might be worth finding out, if you don't know already, why they chose to prescribe topiramate for your migraine instead of low dose amitriptyline? My understanding (I am non-medical) is that amitriptyline is commonly prescribed for migraine. It's worth noting though that one of the side effects of amitriptyline can be screeching tinnitus!
Obviously, the bottom line is to find something that works for you!
Hi there. I was on topirimate for a few months, several years ago. The initial side effects were not too bad - some tingling in my knees and a twitch in my right thumb. Also weight loss, which I was pleased at. My headaches and migraines were completed eliminated and I thought I had found a wonder drug. However, as the weeks wore on, I developed hair loss, which still affects me, on and off, today. I also developed numbness in my toes. As a consequence, I had to come off the tablets and my migraines returned with the same frequency as before. I have poor circulation in my hands now when it is cold and I do sometimes get the thumb twitch. I think it is a good drug if it works for you, but it is so strong that I think most people get some side effects. I hope it goes well for you as you may be one of the lucky ones. I have a male colleague who didn't experience the hair loss or the weight loss on topirimate, but the success of the medication was not as good for him either.
