It might be easier for people to answer if you ask some specific questions about DAI. What exactly were you wanting to know?

Hi, sorry yes would help. My husband was involved in an RTA 2 months ago. He was put in to an induced coma and we were told they didn't know which way it would go. 3 weeks ago they brought him round. His MRI scan showed DAI however he's responding to commands and moving and showing signs of recognition. Am I just seeing what I want to see as I'm so confused about this injury and the future.

They are keeping him in for a year for intensive rehab which is great. I don't expect a miraculous recovery I just want to stay hopeful but realistic as when I got the news I just felt like that was it and nothing could improve.hes also trying to mouth words but has a tracheostomy.

I'm so sorry this happened to you and your husband. My partner also had a DAI, last year. As you've hinted, it's very hard for doctors to predict what the outcome will be, as DAIs can vary in severity so much, depending on the location and number of lesions.

I would say just keep asking the doctors their opinions. They might be able to give a more informed prognosis now that he is emerging from the coma. This is something I didn't do enough, and I really wish I did. They probably won't be able to give a full prognosis yet as it's still technically early days, but I think you should tell them that you want to be kept informed about his progress and what the signs mean. I think doctors can forget that us non-medical folk aren't brain injury experts.

When you say he is showing signs of recognition, what exactly do you mean? Has he spoken yet?

EDIT: sorry, just seen you've said he's got a tracheostomy and so hasn't spoken yet.

He responds to his name, he follows commands and can move arms legs ect and he definitely recognises certain faces. I call the hospital morning and night so I'm up to date with everything and it seems that each day he's progressing. Can i ask how your husband is now please?
