Hi All. Can anyone recommend a private psychologist, either clinical or counselling, that has experience of tbis? Preferably in the South Manchester area. Thanks

I'd suggest contacting the South Manchester Headway group, as many have lists of services in the private sector.

I can only say great things about the service at Salford Royal's Neuropsychology department although I presume you will have seen them already.

i suggest finding out if there is a headway group in south manchester, where you can go and meet people with brain injuries who will listen to you and can give you proper advice...because theyve been there.

if you have a partner, bring them along, they can learn from other partners how they deal with us when we re being a pain in the ass!!!!

Yes, I tried very much to see a GP in the south (Bournemouth) who could refer me to a specialist but sadly the GP did not want to register me as my wife was not there with me (as she is in the Philippines) so I telephoned Bournemouth NHS in Poole. They could not see me without a GP referral.

So... I am without a GP and had to see a specialist on holiday in Germany called Dr. Good.

If you want to find him he will accept your EHIC card and talk to you for an hour and he is by the railway station in Friedrichshafen. It is a long way to go but at least I managed to see a Brain Injury specialist. It is very tough in the UK even to register with a GP if you have a Brain Injury as your circumstances mean they prefer not to have you (as referrals cost them money) so you need to understand why we desperately need a proper government that will actually Save Our NHS.

I hope my experiences help others realise how tough it is living with TBI and in the meantime Plymouth Freedom Fields hospital might find my records from 1983. I was in there with a coma for a month but the records are "lost" thankfully I am found.

I really appreciate this website as it helps me communicate with others like me.
