Hi I am new and I'm glad I found this site. I want to publish a book with art done by people with TBI and autism. I have a son who is 7 and he is beautiful. He has brain damage due to respitory failure, chemically induced coma, when he was 1. They are calling it autism. I just looked up statistics of lifespan of people with autism, and it was very disturbing. I find it hard to handle.

Art done by disabled people to raise funding somehow to help speak out about concern of lifespan of people with TBI and autism.
Hi Aileen. All I know of Autism is from seeing the development of my niece over the years. She was diagnosed aged 3 and went on to develop severe autistic characteristics ; unable to verbalise her needs or thoughts which (is believed) causes her frustration and uncontrollably aggressive behaviour.
She is now in full time care in her own home as, when she reached 21, her parents accepted that she needed 24 hour care. She is now in her mid 40s, and fit and well.
I'm sorry to hear about your boy's issues m'love, but please don't latch onto everything you read. I do understand Autism to be a very complex condition with a wide spectrum.
Best wishes, Cat x
PS I think the book is a wonderful idea...........
shouldnt believe the crap you read. although he he maybe a few years behind his peers and may not get any gcses, with patience, he may learn to read and write and do other things.
encouragement is the important thing, if he falls down pick him up brush him down and get him to try again and again and again and again..........................
never give up.
does he use makaton?
