A year on x
Hi there
I am now 3 and 1/2 years with my TBI. I have recovered really well, and still feel a bit of progress.
Just always remember that TIME is a great healer! I'm also sure that the younger you are, the better progress can be expected!
All the best with your son.
Love Debs
Hi Hun. I'm glad we can help. A year is not long for a brain injury. I call it a bruised brain and it has to go through all the bruise colours till it's better. Just think of the colours a bruise goes through and he will of gone to a diff colour now. You will see glimps of him coming back. More and more as time goes on. Used to make my family smile as they could see I am in there and was just taking my time to come out. Self protection I think the brain goes through. Bi need giving up to 5 years till the bruise is classed as gone. That's when the brain stops it's fast healing. It will continue but a lot slower but I have noticed although my body had stopped healing now my brain has come on amazingly in the last year. In my case the brain fought to fix its body first then when it was as fixed as it could make it it started fixing itself. My opinion and only mine is,,,, the brain gets its body better and protects you mentally whilst doing it. Then starts on itself. I don't know if your son had obvious injuries but it will have a head to fix before itself. Hope this makes sense. The brain has proved to be a very unselfish caring thing. As said a the first year is the worst and the bruise should still get lighter. Love to you all xx
Wonderful! I too am convinced that our 'subconscious brain' is very effective and does the work. But though it generally keeps to itself it does have to restrict the conscious brain's shenanigans when it has a really important job to do! Personally recovering from TBI and childbirth are the two occasions that I have been 'sidelined' and I am sure that it is best to be a helper and obey rather than kick up a fuss about things of which we are entirely ignorant!
Good luck with his recovery. I met a lovely young man who'd seriously injured himself (late teens) and had taken a year to get back to school full time, but went on to eventually take his GCSEs a bit later than his friends. He's doing really well. Hope your son continues to improve. X
