My son finally had plate put in after 2 half yrs, my question is when he wakes his head is fairly full of fluid, tween scalp and plate?
My son had his plates put in April, after been removed for 6 months. Last week we noticed he also had some fluid accumulating at the front of his head, mainly there on a morning when he got up. This lasted for 5 days then it's gone again. Before the surgery he had lots of fluid on one side, so I guess it has to go somewhere.
We got in touch with hospital when we noticed the fluid, they wanted to see Jack if the fluid started leaking, or he got infection or was feeling generally unwell, hope this helps.
Yes I would defiantly be visiting the doctor. Yes when jack had the fluid, by the end of the day it had gone. Such a worrying time , let me know how you get on xx
Hi not been to doc as Kris reluctant to go as he going tomorrow 4 staples to be taken out. He appears to be leaking thru area where staples are today, roll on tomorrow the doc can look at him and decide if this is okay or not. Will let you know xx

It sounds like a medical assessment may be more appropriate today if there is leakage through the staples. If Kris is reluctant then perhaps a telephone assessment may be a compromise to start with. Depending on current arrangements in your area you could telephone the NHS 111 service or NHS direct (0845 46 47). These are both available to call in the evenings for a telephone clinical assessment and either will signpost on to the most appropriate face to face assessment.

We did get told if there was any leakage Jack had to be taken straight back to hospital. Before Jack had his plates replaced he got an infection in his fluid due to a drain site leaking and needed very strong IV antibiotics for 6 weeks. It has to best for him to be looked at, even just for reassurance xx

Oh I do hope so, he now has a hard lump protruding from forehead there is no natural bone there only the plate, it doesn't hurt but god only knows what it can be

It's all a worry. Jacks operation went well, but we have been knocked back so many times, that it's hard to be positive. Can I ask the reason your son had his skull removed in the first place?
He had a massive brain bleed after falling out of a moving taxi at 30mph, we don't know why or how it happened and he has no memory of anything around that time.
What was the reason for your sons cranioplasty? And I don't mind you asking anything its nice to chat with someone who really gets it

2 out of my 3 young children were involved in a car accident with there father last September. Both children were in intensive care after been air lifted to hospital. They both have brain injuries. Sophie 9 had fractured skull, Jack 11 had raised pressure in his head, so to save his life they had to remove 2 large areas of his skull. Worst time ever, and now 2 different children, life is so hard xx
Gosh how very difficult for you, I can't imagine the pain of being torn between two of your children, you must be an amazing mum to deal with that, are both your little ones mobilizing and talking now?
Hope someone supports you also, I do hope you'll find as time goes on that more and more of Sophie and Jacks personality comes shining back through, it did with Kris and his accident was in 2010.

I'm no different to any other mam, just doing everything possible to give them the best outcome for the future.
Sophie spoke and walked quiet quickly, JAck was slower, we didn't hear his voice for over a month, he is mobilising now, but that took months of physio, he has left sided weakness, which affects his walking also.
I did get told that they didn't think Jack would walk again, so everything is a bonus. I would do anything to have the old children back.

You are fantastic don't minimize your efforts, yes most mums would do what ever they could for their children, but I also sadly know people that just can't cope,
Kris has right side weakness as he's left brain injury, so I'm guessing jack is right side injured? Great to hear Sophie is doing well, onwards and upwards for our valiant children..
So glad I've spoken with you I was told the same re walking talking with Kris but he's proved docs wrong there is no exact science with brain injury so who knows what these people will achieve!!

Yes it's nice to talk to someone who has had the same experiences. I'm very scared of the future, Sophie physically has made a great recovery but she is really struggling at school. Jack is just doing 3 mornings at school at present, but physically he is improving, but short term memory is very poor, and learning new things is a struggle for him.

Does Sophie get learning support to assist her with learning? Trouble is brain injury is not well known so cos they look ok on outside they are expected to perform as they did, and that's huge pressure on them..
Yes short term memory is a problem when your at the almost beginning of your journey, we played matching games computer brain training games and that helped Kris
The problems that he is left with at this moment in time is epilepsy short term memory tho it has improved lately, and anger issues and very short fuse, he doesn't season very well and everything is black and white, he is now racist tho acts appropriately when out

She gets support in a small group at school, she has had loads at assessments, but I don't feel they are doing enough. Jack is in the same class with it been a very small village school, so we fighting for support at present abd got a big meeting on Tuesday with lots of professionals, to see what they can do towards there learning. Lately jack has been quiet angry towards Sophie and really winds her up, but to everybody else upto now he is fine. He has disinhibited behaviour and would talk to anyone, which is worrying. I'm finding it all very difficult to accept, and just wish that clock could be turned back. I'm starting my councilling tomorrow so I'm hoping that will make a difference how I feel.
