Thickened uterine lining

Hi, I’m 51 years old (have 2 children) and had my 3rd Mirena coil inserted 18 months ago. The last two have lasted 4 years, however, with the latest I have started bleeding off and on for the last 4 months. Visited GP and was referred for an ultrasound and TVU which I had on Thursday. Yesterday I was told that I have a thickened uterine lining and a ? Polyp and have been referred for further tests.

I’m trying to feel positive but struggling.

Has anyone had any experience of this please?

Hi there. I've recently been through this myself with a thickened lining of 13.7 and a cyst on ovary. I've been diagnosed with complex hyperplasia, benign basically. Cyst ok too. Try not to worry too much, easily said I know but it really doesn't have to be bad news. Hormones do some strange things.

I had to have a biopsy which wasn't very pleasant. But just gave me bad period cramps and bled for nearly two weeks after.

I really hope this helps a little and you get the same outcome I did.

Thank you for your reply.

I saw the Specialist last night and he isn't worried and was very reassuring. I'm going for pre-op today and will have a hysteroscopy under general anaesthetic on Friday. Will be glad when it's over and hopefully all will be ok with results.

Delighted to hear your results were good news. X

Hi .

I was also told the same and had a camera and hysteroscopy and my biopsy a few weeks ago (and not under general anaesthetic 😬) I had to ring 2 weeks after and all was clear!

Good luck

Clare

Hi there,

We're sorry to hear that you're feeling worried at the moment, but it's completely understandable.

Early 50's are the normal age to go through the menopause, and experience abnormal bleeding, whether on the coil or it. It's not uncommon for this also to be a time where polyps or fibroids appear either, but of course it's stressful waiting to hear back for results if they/your womb lining are biopsied, and hyperplasia is also not as rare as we think it is, and is in itself a benign condition.

It's lovely to see supportive messages from other Health Unlocked ladies, which we hope have helped as well. Your team are looking after you and doing all of the right tests - please try and keep occupied and as calm as possible.

All our best wishes,

Team Eve x

Well, I had the hysteroscopy and biopsies and thankfully everything was clear. However, I was told I have a large uterus and a possible fibroid within the wall which the Consultant couldn’t access to remove. I was prescribed Cezarette (on top of the Mirena coil) to control bleeding. This was for 3 months and all seemed ok but, as soon as, I stopped taking Cezarette, I have had a really painful, full blown period which has continued for over 2 weeks (although initial pains have eased a lot). My GP has represcribed Cezarette for another 3 months but, so far, I am still bleeding. I have made another appointment to see my doctor next week. I’m just wondering if anyone else has experienced anything similar?

I will be 52 in a couple of weeks and feel very confused. Please help......
