Do you have to declare you are coelia... - Gluten Free Guerr...
Do you have to declare you are coeliac when you apply for holiday insurance.?
Yes. It is a pre existing medical condition so needs to be declared.
Would always do so....as we know insurance companies wriggle...(and I hope you never have to make a claim)
Just make sure that when you do declare it...they record it in the right terminology.
Some insurance companies arent bothered at all...and some will put an extra huge premium on top of the standard costs...shop around a bit...
Have fun!!
Certainly if you are diagnosed as having CD or you can have real problems if you get a very bad reaction and need medical care.
Yes it is always best to do so.
I had to make a claim last october as I was accidentally glutened the day before my trip, and layed up for a week, and I had to cancel it. The insurers were ok about it but I had to get proof from my doctor at the cost of £18 for a letter.
The insurers now have that on record but advised me that it is classed as a pre-existing medical condition so should have been declared as such at the time I took out my policy.
I recently enquired about holiday insurance for a week to Europe :standard policy was £15 for a couple and when confirming a pre existing condition of coeliac it only went up to £17.
That doesn't seem too bad I had to pay an extra £172 for my yearly insurance to declare crohns you wonder how they make that figure up £172 . But I didn't declare coeliac I will have to phone and tell them it will probably go up a lot again
I'm with aviva. It didn't cost me anymore to let them know I'm intolerant to gluten and lactose but they needed to know. It wasnt even anymore about my polyps that grow in my bowel. I was only calling to tell them about a broken finger. Insurance companies have to know everything. They have a long list of complaints for me. But it's also useful as if you end up in hospital abroad they'll let the hospital know your needs with their translators.
I delcared my coeliac disease recently for my insurance and there was no additional premium. It's definitely worth doing as insurance companies will do anything they can to get out of paying your claims.
